From the ad, I had only seen the front. Was I pleased when I lifted it out of the case?
You bet!!!

Wow! Not usually a fan of quilted maple, but that... If only that was the grain on the front...

The nut has been changed on it, to accommodate the octave strings inverted. I would love to change it back, but now with a new wider spaced nut.

I like "birdseye" 381V69 models as well. This is my Fireglo 12 string version from 1987.

Is the gold plastic stock, Kevin? The odd finish and the pickguards look like they were made for eachother.

The gold guards were made by a friend locally and the genuine gold TRC came from Jeff Foskett.
I agree and the light Fireglo finish has "ambered" quite nicely over the past 19 years.

Damn! I missed your original conundrum Lars, but I wouldn't have been much help!
I have a 381 and a V64 (both 6 string) and I often play the "If I had to, which would I sell..." game.
I've never come close to a decision even once because they are both so superb and beautiful. I wouldn't worry about the weight of the 381, although it's noticeably more than a V64, it aint exactly a les paul with three humbuckers and a bigsby on it!
Enjoy - you've got a beauty
