This always freaks me out.
In 1985 I had a dream that my Father and I were standing in a field watching a number of tornadoes go by. Within a month my Father and I were watching an F4 rip through our town. I don't remember the exact number in the dream but it corresponded to the number of the tornadoes that went through PA during that storm.
A month later I had a dream about my Uncles barn getting hit by one. Within a week a barn down the road from his got hit.
Nothing weird before that or since, Thank God!
I would have much preferred to dream about playing Entwhistle's Alembic!

Last night I dreamed I was at the beach watching a deer swim toward the shore with a baby kangaroo on its back. It came up out of the water a walked right past me. The little kangaroo turns over on his back with his arms across his chest and just enjoys the ride.

I assume I was in Australia, but I don't know if they have deer there.

Timothy, the only deer we have in Australia exists behind high fences - farmed commercially as venison. No wild deer. The deer in your dream must have escaped from the farm before jumping into the ocean with the kangaroo on it's back!

a good dream would be that I get to play that bass and jam with the Who ...

Hmmm .... I wonder what Sigmund Freud would think of these strange dreams..... uncovering second hand store bonanzas; and discovering warehouses full of Ricks and Gretschs; having jam sessions with The Who, etc.

Are there any Forum members in the field of psychology who care to share an opinion ??

Darren - we have the high teens/low 20s (F!!) and about 6-7" of snow on the ground - I had to shovel today!!

Kevin - I've dreamt of seeing tornadoes since I was little - they used to be frightning dreams of hiding but since I grew up (ok, physically) I just see them and look in awe.

Yeah, I want to know more about the "flying" one. I used to have that dream a lot when I was younger, in my 20s. An effortless "gliding" over things, getting from here to there in a snap. Someone told me once that dreams of self-propelled flight are what they call out-of-body experiences. I never was 'deep' enough back to look into that notion.

It all must mean something.

I don't think it is OBE - mine were at night when I slept but it was anytime of day/night in the dreams. It might just be something as simple as an active imagination reacting to a deep relaxation. I know when I have had extreme emotional decisions to make I always have the same dream - total darkness and I'm running and being persued but then I cross the "safe" line and the scene explodes into full sunlight and there are huge piles of long large diameter tubes I am crawling over. I am totally relaxed when I wake. Explain that one!

When I was a teen, with a bad fever, I had a dream of flying through a starlit space (think the viewscreen of the Enterprise at warp speed) and it was pleasant. Then I noticed a sound, and listening to it it sounded like a wind blowing. Focusing harder on it it started to change, and in the distance I saw a yellow/orange object on an arcing path coming towards me. The sound clarified into a crowd laughing and the object grew into 2 people standing on a HUGE comedy/tragedy comedy animated, laughing mask suspended by 2 huge cables from the darkness. The two people were holding the cables and pointing at me and laughing. It was flaming/shimmering. As it drew almost to me, it dropped off the cables and I startled. I hit my head on the headboard doing that in actuality, woke up, and I was in a total sweat and the fever had just broke.

I still get the mushroom cloud on the horizon dream, every few months. Side effect to growing up in the sixties, I guess.

Turn dreams into tunes!

I need to get in on this weirdness for a minute. Over twenty years ago, I got interested in 'creative dreaming'. I read several books that described very methods of achieving 'hypnogogic (sp?) dream states'. The hardest part is training yourself to realize when you're dreaming, so that you can then control events in the dream state. Rather than simply going along with an odd dream scenario, the goal is to make things happen and experience the impossible.

I was heavily into this for a time. Now I casually discover myself dreaming and find that I can explore and push the possibilities without waking up. Strangely, although I'm able to fly, float, and fall while dreaming (sometimes in a car, a rowboat or a canoe), I usually find it hard to physically move. It's as though I'm drunk or drugged, because I have little physical strength and my motions are slow and clumsy.

I once had a classic OBE, that involved me floating silently from room to room throughout my house. Things looked strange because there were no doors and few objects in any of the rooms. I saw no one else during my journey - just nearly empty rooms. There was a dim ambient yellowish light that came from nowhere that lit each room. After a lap around the house, I found myself looking down at my own sleeping form in bed and I woke up immediately.

I'm only sleeping...

I guess that would be me...I'm just a 2nd year student though so I'm no authority on dreams or Freud But this is what I know...

Freud thought that our dreams were ways for our subconscious primal desires and impulses to manifest themselves in ways that are more "acceptable". According to Freud these impulses were usually sexual in nature. Honestly Freud's theories aren't very highly regarded in the psychological community because they are very dated and a little "out there". I couldn't tell you what subconscious desires are being manifested in your dreams...I don't really subscribe to freuds way of thinking. The problem with dream analysis from a Freudian point of view is that it's based purely on his interpretation of your dream and if you went and had your dream analysed by 10 other people they would probably all tell you something different. If you ask me, most of the time a dream is just a dream and if you dream about Ricks I think it's because you really like and really want Ricks. Plain and simple.

The popular belief now is that dreams are just our brain's interpretation of the electrical signals it sends out during sleep to maintain and reinforce our neural connections. Without this stimulation during sleep, we wouldn't be able to learn or remember anything because after awhile the neural connections that would have been established would deteriorate. This is one case were the saying "if you don't use it you lose it" is true. This is all just a theory though...I don't think anyone knows for sure why we dream.

I subscribe to the idea dreams are entertainment. Since we sleep 5-9 hours a day, it helps pass the time.

Freud thinking everything had a sexual reason - guy was weird.

One thing I noticed, speaking of sexual dreaming, is since being married, if there is another female and it involves any kind of advancements on her or my part, I always wake up before anything happens! Guess I don't always win in my dreams!

I had a dream a while ago where I got laid and I also got money in the mail ... now that is a good dream!

I have also had a dream where I was playing bass through a bass stack 20' wide by 12' high ... Yaaa Baby!
