CCR, "The night time is the right time" & the Ramones, "I wanna be sedated" - two best one-note solos (imho).

Has anybody mentioned John Entwhistle's bass break in "My Generation"? i always felt this was a profound statement of Rock 'N Roll instrumentation at its best.

I really like the lead in "Comfortably Numb", but then Gilmour is always very tasteful. And Camel's Andy Lattimer always plays melodic and tasteful leads also.

Hmm.. for bass? "YYZ", "La Villa". Metallica's "Orion". Cliff's solo is HARD! Plus he takes advantage of his 21st fret. "Number of the Beast" has a quick one.. as does "Only The Good Die Young".
Guitar? The first solo in "Comfortably Numb". It gives me goosebumps. The harmony solo in Maiden's "Murders in the Rue Morgue" iskiller too.

Same here re: "Comfortably Numb", John and Nate. For me, followed closely by "On The Turning Away".
However, neither is particularly short... LOL!

Johnallg, I'm with you. The guitar solo by Latimer and Bardens' organ solo in "Another Night" are two of my favorite anywhere. The first guitar solo in Toto's "Rosanna" always floors me, despite my almost uncontrollable fear of popular music.
I usually like the guys who can make real music on their solos with their instruments and do it within my attention span. People like Bartek from Boingo, Lukather with Toto (and has played with just about everybody else), Gilmour is a great example (and the lead in "Comfortably Numb" is a great example.)
Somehow, the idea of a solo that expresses the momentary emotion, agrees in some way with the music, has a beginning, middle and end and then, um, really ends after the end seems to be a rare and beautiful thing.

Mark, I agree on guitar soloing. Also, "Africa is another Toto song I always liked a lot - great, simple, fitting bass part.

I like the really low guitar solo in "Who Are You" - shame I associate this tune with CSI now though.
