I vouch for Willie's as well. Great place. I didn't mean to be harsh on them about their prices, if it came out sounding that way. Vintage guitars in shops are just too pricey for me. By the way Wes, you said they are one of the only places in town with new Ricks on the wall - are there others? None that I know of, but I'd love to know if there are any . . .
You would think in a metro area with a music scene the size Minneapolis that there would be more Ricks around. Since GC got axed, only Willies carries new bass inventory to my knowledge. DC music in Blaine is a Rick dealer, but never has new Rick basses in stock. Maybe outstate dealers have some, but Willies for the past year reliablly has new and used stock to choose from. In all my fruitless searching of ebay in the last several years, I may just buy new and pay the tax one of these days. At least that way I will get to hold it first before buying. It seems I will never score a cool deal online like most of you guys do.
No matter where you go - there you are.
I agee with Ricosound. I have been looking for a 4003 in MPLS for a few months and have been to both DC in Blaine and Willies (more than once). I finally connected and scored a new Mapleglo 4003 via Wade's Guitars in Milwaukee. I was traveling through to visit the parents so it was not as out of the way as you would think. Wade's was great - they had two new Rics in stock - a Jetglo and the Mapleglo (now mine - bwahahah!). They also had a used Ric as well. Price was better than what I found on line as well.
Thanks, John, happy to be here! Lots of good information and a very helpful group.
I did not look closely at the used bass, but I talked to the guy at Wade's on the phone about it before I stopped by. I think he told me it was a 4001. It looked like it was white but had faded/aged to a cream color (refinish?). It has been around the block and had a few cosmetic scuffs, etc. but seemed like a nice instrument. The guy at Wade's also told me that someone else was looking at it, so if you interested, I would give them a call or stop by sooner rather than later on that one.
