The best use for it in my experience was loosening water meter nuts and bolts in the Tempe, AZ ground when changing them out.

I used to see old jazz bass players in New Orleans use it on their hands. After playing eight sets 45/15 on an old full-size double bass, these guys in their 60s and 70s, who had been bangin that thing six nights a week since 1920 or so, were getting arthritis and swollen finger and knuckle joints. Out would come a spray can of WD-40 and they would soak down their knuckes and fingers with it. After rubbing it around with a bar cloth for awhile, they would flex their fingers and go back to playing the next set.
I asked one of them why in the world did they not use Aspercreme or something else. Old guy said that WD-40 was cheap, did the trick of relieving the aches, and kept his bass strings clean and loud. ???? Loud???? Never did understand why, and no I never tried it myself
