Thanks Kevin! Nah, what you need to do is give it to me as there's no point having a bass without walnut wings and it would save you the trauma of having to change it.
Gene, I'm sure you're right, but in this case I'm sure the guard isn't original; it's too long for the period, the pickup route is wrong (or appears so from the photos) and I'm not even sure it's the right material from what I can see.

Slightly off-topic, the surround showing on the big pic of my CS was the one I got with the replacement horseshoe; the original surround is now back on as you may be able to see in the other picture.
The "family portrait" is, L to R: Feb '72 4001, Aug '91 CS (number 199), Nov '73 4000, and a Nov '76 4001 which used to be mine but which I'm currently babysitting for a friend. Tough job
