High Price for a 72?

Those are very nice! It does look like the identical head shape as the one in the ad.
Maybe I should chop some wood off from mine and add walnut!

Just cause the fingerrest was missing doesn't mean the pickguard isn't original. I've seen some early 60's Ricks with the fingerrest, and some without, and I'll be damned if I can figure out the rhyme or reason for it. I have a '71 with fingerrest, then saw a guy at a guitar show a few years ago with a '71 bass with serial number within one digit of mine, but it had no fingerrest...

Thanks Kevin! Nah, what you need to do is give it to me as there's no point having a bass without walnut wings and it would save you the trauma of having to change it.

Gene, I'm sure you're right, but in this case I'm sure the guard isn't original; it's too long for the period, the pickup route is wrong (or appears so from the photos) and I'm not even sure it's the right material from what I can see.

Thanks for the pics Jim! No worries re the quality, I'm just glad to have some pics up! I don't know if you can tell from the pics but the 72 is checkerbound, FWIW.

Slightly off-topic, the surround showing on the big pic of my CS was the one I got with the replacement horseshoe; the original surround is now back on as you may be able to see in the other picture.

The "family portrait" is, L to R: Feb '72 4001, Aug '91 CS (number 199), Nov '73 4000, and a Nov '76 4001 which used to be mine but which I'm currently babysitting for a friend. Tough job

I think the price on the '72 is about right for the final blow. Funny, some use ebay as a straight sale rather than an auction where the bidding starts low, as it should. I paid slightly less for my '72 azureglo in Japan. If I didn't have it I'd be a real bidder on this one.

Simon, that's an offer I can't refuse! As soon as as is workable, I'll try and arrange something. Although compared to yours, which really is a great collection (make that a phenomenal collection!!), mine is anything BUT a great collection....but thanks anyway!
