Self Taught...What Method?

The one that got me to switch from guitar to bass way back when wasnt Jaco, that happened on my 16th birthday..before that it was Jim Kale of the Guess Who that made me realize I was a bassist...

Ha! Ginger, I used to know Jim Kale back "in the day", along with Randy and Burton of course. I saw Randy last year and I still talk to Chad Allan on occasion. Unfortunately I have not had an opportunity to chat with Burton for many years now.
What a small world.

Yes last time I toured out west I met a few people who have known Jim for many years..I almost got to meet him several times...He currentlee or at least in 2003 was playing with a lil outfit called the Dinky Boys...has had more than his share of substance abuse and alchohol problems with himself and his family..sigh..

Accomplished means that you've "arrived" which to me also means that you know it all, I hope I'm never accomplished, but I used my ears and the radio along with trumpet and tuba school band stuff for 4 years prior. I can play all sorts of styles because of that background. Seriously, just grab a bass and play along with the radio or CD's (records in my case), you'll pick it up.
Jim Kale is a great melodic bass player with a great P bass sound, loved his stuff. Specially stuff like Undone, Laughing etc. but he always sounded good. I saw them in 1970 at an outside concert, sounded unbelievable especially for outside back then, all the harmonies were there, band sounded great.

Speaking of the late Randy California, I loved Spirit also, they had a great bass player also, played an EB-3 and got a great sound, he was kind of a jazzy-type player, very unique sounding band.

12DoDS was our album of the summer way back when... Also used to listen to the James Gang and watch Saturday morning cartoons with the sound down. Wacky summer, that one.
