Jerry....Jerry? Stop hitting "refresh" on the UPS Website, and step away from the computer screen...you need to eat and sleep. Your wife misses you.

Well, it's like this...when I talked to Gary last week, he said that it was quite possible that DHL would get it here by Tuesday, even though it was "ground" and that typically means 4-5 days. Of course, that was the LAST thing I needed to hear, because that got my hopes up.

So I watch the DHL site all weekend..OK, it gets picked up in Cudahy WI at 3:19 PM Friday, then gets clocked in "Departing Origin" from Milwaukee at 7:01 PM. It goes thru a sort facility in South Bend at 2:49 AM Saturday, then no sign of it all weekend.

But at least it was moving, because it showed up at a sort facility in Phoenix on Monday at 10:16 PM. So, I'm thinking, man that Gary is a genius, and Tuesday will be the day!! I make room on the guitar wall, I hang banners, prepare confetti, book the marching band...ya know, I don't want to go overboard. I mean, it's only a guitar.

Then I sign on Tuesday morning and it says "Arrived at DHL facility" at 6:28 AM in Phoenix. Hmmm, ok, that's ok, don't panic...it's probably on the truck, they just didn't change it to "Out for delivery". No problemo, I work from home anyway, so I'll be here.

Then later on Tuesday I finally see the site says "Est. Del. Date" is 4/12/07. "But, but, but..." I splutter to myself, "the damn thing's IN PHOENIX. Just put it on the truck and deliver it!" Then I calm down, and think , ok, ok, that's fine. Wednesday is April 11, and that will be exactly 2 years ago today that I ordered it from NCM. Ah -- serendipity! I'll surely get it on the two year anniversary. Wednesday April 11!

Well, here it is, Wednesday April 11, 5:34 PM local time. No guitar. Screw serendipity.

I even called DHL, asked them if I could come and just pick it up. The lady said, "well, it's in a holding room, and someone will have to go pull it out and then put it aside, and then they'll have to call you, and it will take awhile..." Forget it. I figured if I did that, they'd lay it under a front-loader and it would be kindling by the time I got there. So we wait for tomorrow.

Guys, this is a disease. I am a sick sick person and I need professional help. As for my wife...nah, she doesn't miss me. She thinks it's funny: "You waited TWO YEARS for this guitar and you can't wait one more day?" Twenty-four years of marriage and she STILL doesn't understand me!

The waiting list watch withdrawal syndrome will get ya next. I need to be on a list again. I can't live without being on a list. I told my wife it does not feel normal to not be on a RIC waiting list. She banned me from the list for a spell. But I will get back on the list, I must get back on the list......anyone see my meds anywhere? I seem to have misplaced them...

Two years and 1 day ago I ordered it, and here it is! This guitar is amazing. It's perfect! The sound is there, the chime is there, 353533 is there!

Of course the digital camera colors are a little deeper around the edges than it really is. On the other hand, like most Ricks, the look really changes with the light. Part of the aura and mystique I guess.

And then one of the whole family:

THANK YOU, Mr. Hall, Kenny, Ben, and all the happy warriors in Santa Ana. Didn't think I'd say "It was worth the wait" after 2 years, but it was!

Thanks. Very cool to have multiple Ricks. I may catch up to some of you other multiple-Rick-families yet.

Man, I LOVE this guitar!

Thanks all. I never thought I'd say it after 2 years, but it really WAS worth the wait.

It's funny tho -- I have Ricks, I know how big they are, I know what they look like. But I was a little surprised when I opened the case and saw -- a NORMAL sized guitar! Because my frame of reference for years had been pictures of Harrison with his, I had this mind's-eye vision of THIS GIANT GUITAR! It just looks so HUGE on him.

I had the same feeling back in the late 90s when I got a Gretsch Country Classic II (aka Country Gent). I figured George needed two men and a small boy to strap that sucker on. But it wasn't any bigger than any other hollow body archtop. I know he was thin (a condition which I, sadly, definitely do NOT share with him), but his Rick and his Gent make him look, uhm, puny.
