When I worked at Electro String in the early/mid 70's, I remember asking one of the old guys(Lynn)that worked in the mill part of the factory about the design of the instruments, Rogers name came up in regards to the guitars, but when I asked about the Bass I got this for an answer: some country western guy from Texas had a large part in the shape and design. Lynn said that he couldn't remember his name, and that the can opener peg head (his description) was someone else's work. I was 25 yrs. old at that time and just curious as to where this unique shape came from.

So the 4000 may not have been entirely an RR design?

I always assumed that the shape was inspired by California's Pacific coast surf. Of course that might have just been the way it evolved and not the original intent. Can opener, eh? Great stuff!
