There were times when there were numbers of these in dealer stock and in stock at the factory, that hung around for years and eventually were unloaded at low prices to a sigh of relief. Then they suddenly acquired cachet, due, I suppose, to rarity--a typical supply-and-demand situation.

I don't see how the numbers could ever justify RIC's building these (and a number of other "in demand" vintage models.

There are just so many hours in a day and so much factory space and staff, and a largish backlog to deal with.

I agree Paul. Even in recent memory, while I think Sea Green is an awesome color, why is it that so few ordered it when they had the chance?

Then the rarity creates the value.

With that said, I'd still like to see Ric come out with another bass with vintage appointments. There seems to be much more for guitarists to choose from than bassists.

Come on John Hall, you're a fellow bassist, don't you want something cool to rock out on ?

BTW, I think the CME Mapleglo 4005 is beautiful!

The market has changed a great deal since the 4005 went out production so I'm not sure if they were produced they would hang around. However, I agree that their are only so many hours in a day and that the backlog needs to be the priority. Plus re tooling costs etc... I don't see this model making a comeback. Especially at the price tag they would have to attach to make it a profitable endeavor.

JH's backhand referenced quote to the 4005 was really quite amusing...

I think there's absolutely no chance of the "tuna boats" making a comeback.

That sounds like there is a LITTLE more hope for those who would like one. Perhaps we should get off of his back and give him a break.

PERSONALLY, I can't wait to see some of the new stuff that may come down the pike in the future.

Who knows? Possibly a 4004 Fretless? I'd try one of those! John also made mention that a 4004/8 may materialize, I'd order one of those as well! A DUMPSTER BASS perhaps? A 4001V68 would be cool, but I'm trying to look forward for the most part as far as RIC goes.

Wait till the 4004 is CNC programmed and in production that way and see what happpens with those models. I also don't think you'll EVER see a dumpster bass in production - John has said he really doesn't like it.

I'd love to see a bass design based upon the 381V69.

I definitley see a 4004FL and a 4004/8 in the future.

In the Rickenbacker Museum John has access to just about every Rickenbacker instrument ever made , in my book that's about as cool as it gets. !!!

Oh, and there's the Dumpster too !!
