Another idea would be to let Dane drill out the screw holes then just cut off the screw heads and glue them to the pickguard. I think the screws add a nice visual. Best of both worlds IMO.

Well, not exactly, when you put it that way, Brian. I just thought it would be a good way to eliminate screws from the equation. You know how I hat to drill into a nice paint job!
Double-face tape itself predates me.
By about a week or so.

I've been wondering about this for the longest time. I absolutely love the look of the 4001S and 4001V63, neither of which are in production anymore. Specifically, I've been pining for a Mapleglo with no binding and walnut wings. I don't really care about the pickups at this point.
I love the way the 4004 looks, body contour-wise, but I think it would look awesome with a regular Ric pickguard. I've been thinking that getting a 4004L in Mapleglo and then somehow attaching a 4003 pickguard to it would look amazing.
Someone on the "Anyone need a bass photoshop?" thread at Talkbass.com did one for me. It's not perfect (the pictures I gave him were not so great to begin with), as you can see with the too-short pickguard, but pretty awesome nonetheless.

Bobcat, that looks really nice! A little longer on the guard under the strings, maybe. 'Course I'm partial to Mapleglos.

I'm sure you could come up with pleasing dimensions and have Tony at Pickguardian make one up. MG with black would look nice. I wonder if Paul would paint on a faux-pickguard.

Only until you try a 4004.
