Most of us "church" musicians had a life before we don't care to talk about much, but slips out now and then. For me it is being a former sailor and....other things!!

Too funny Tony! I must tell you of the time I used a Black Sabbath bass line in one of our songs. It worked, and they weren't Satanic anyway, it just made better "press"!

LOL Sheena,

Well, let's just say I TRY not to be a naughty boy....but sometimes....my youth re-surfaces.

All I'll say is a WAS a bad boy way back when I had hair. Image

I've found if there is a religious message in Sabbath, at least early Sabbath, that it is actually a Christian message. Unfortunately, most people got stuck on the band's name and missed the spiritual and anti-war, pro-environment messages that are in much of their music.

Dane, I've noticed that as well.

I for one am looking forward to an Electric Funeral someday when I shuffle off this mortal coil. With lots of Rickenbacker clank Image But, if Iron Man attends he will definitely not be allowed to be "killing those he once saved".

Forget organ music and a sad old rented shadowy funeral parlor. Give me late 60s tunes and a Hammond B3, lots of DC on the keys, with a couple of Leslies and a Party Wake to remember me by Image Image Cool jazz and rick, I mean rock ...... everyone dancing on my little slice of Atlantic oceanfront beach with tours of all the Rickenbackers in the music room!
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and sit in with the band whenever you can, to keep your chops up!

Dane, Robert, and Charly: you were referring to the messages when the records are played backwards, right? Image

Gary, actually, the lyrics are quite plain in their meaning. I recently got Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on CD to replace the vinyl version I got for my 15th birthday. The 70's were an interesting time in that the perils of modern times were played out via popular culture via film and music, as two examples. Science fiction is no longer fiction.
