G.L. >> What would a 4005 like this be worth?

Not sure, but I want one so it'll be expensive :^)

Anyone know what John Entwhistle's 4005/8 WB brought at the estate auction???

Many times what it was worth, because of the Ox's association with it, I'm sure. Before about two weeks ago, I had never even know of the existence of an 8-string version of a 4005. I had a chance to buy a 4005, not an 8-string, around 1984-85 at George Gruhn's in Nastyville, Tennishoe for about $850.00, firm.
If I remember it was a dark blue, might have even been see-thru finish. It was almost 20 years ago, I can't say anything for sure except dark blue. I don't remember it it was used or new at the time. I was young and dumb and didn't think I would look cool with a hollow body bass. I even lived at home at the time and had no bills.

I bought mine (a '67) around '82-83, and chose it for three reasons - I loved the look (harrison-y), had never seen or heard of that model before in my life ( I need to be the odd man),and three -mainly because it was about the least expensive bass in the store ($250)! Once upon a time old guitars were just old guitars!

I currently own a 4001 and a 4003 with a 4004 on order. Once the 4004 comes in it would be great to start a search for a 4002 and 4005!

cheers!

I have a 4004Cii on order also, so once that comes in (yeah, right!), then I'll have the '67 4005 WB, '73 4001 and '0? 4004cii. Does that mean I will need to get a 4002 and a 4003 so I can have a nice sequence...4001, 4002, 4003, 4004, and 4005? Wouldn't that be cool!

That's what I'm saying Jeff! When did you order your Cii?

Hi

Just for grins I'm gonna be taking both my '67 4005 and my '65 360/12 FG plus a couple of amps to Voxfest next weekend. I could be persuaded to part with either or both for the right price. Not gonna go cheap as I love having 'em around, but $ talks.

Claude...As nice as your 4005 is, you really should re-chrome the bridge. It looks pretty bad with that new RIC finish and otherwise good original chrome.

Andy,

I ordered mine the end of May, so I don't expect to see it until...

I took apart my 4005 WB today to clean it up and inside the control cavity was the usual clear spot with the model number written in along with a couple of initials. One of them I could not read clearly but the other one was JH. Was there anybody else at Rickenbacker in the mid '60s with those initials besides John Hall???? How cool would that be if it is him!

Claude what strings are you using & did you have any problems w/ the E string being too thick for the R tailpiece?, it's been years since I changed the strings on mine but I remember having a hard time finding a set that would fit ,

Cheers

When I had the 4005 WB back in the '70s I actually put a Badass bridge on it because that R tailpiece really is a pain in the butt, sorry but it's true. It now has the original parts on it but it is still a PITA to deal with. I have 40-60-75-95 Chromes on it now but when it is all set up I'll put TI flats on it.

Does anybody know where I might get a Plexi thumbrest?
