Fender Tube Reverb Unit Versus Digital Options
Moderator: jingle_jangle
Would have to be Miserlou Peter although there are many running a very close second. Right now the band is working on Moovin' N' Groovin' of the 1st Duane Eddy Lp a copy of which lives on my desk (1st record I ever bought)...Paul rips a cool lead on this one and will be on our next cd due out this summer...whoa, not to subtle a segue there...

Miserlou is a great tune, so much energy.
Duane Eddy, you really are into the surf images, George.
Do you have a Whirlpool washer and dryer too?
Thanks for the heads up with regard to the CD.

Duane of course is pre-surf as I believe that Lp came out in 1959..many surf guitarists "took" a lesson or two from it...the opening guitar figure to Moovin' N' Groovin" was lifted by the Beach Boys..used as the opening figure for Surfin' USA..the rest of the tune they borrowed from Chuck Berry's Sweet Little Sixteen (they had to pay that one back). Duane's Lp "Have Twangy Guitar Will Travel" is a classic...he uses multi whammy bar dips in the same tune that every surf guitar player then/now still use....while Rebel Rouser was the big hit, there are many killer tracks on the disc..thanks in no small part to the late Steve Douglas on Sax..Steve went on to play on 1,000 of tracks including much work with Los Lobos...Duane is still out there plays some mean Chet Atkins style stuff..did a remake of Peter Gunn w/The Art Of Noise a number of years ago....Maytag w/d ;o)

George: My Fender Reverb (Reissue) Unit should arrive this week. It has been a long search.

Great Peter and congrats! Swap out the the 6v6 for a nos 6k6 and replace the preamp tubes with better nos ones...there are a couple of other minor tweeks (one different value cap) that adds more vintage flavor though the unit sound good out of the box..if you run into any problems look for cold s. joints..week spot on some..you'll love it!

George: Well, the Fender Reverb Unit arrived today and I have had only a few moments to test drive it. Without a doubt, it is a warm reverb of exceedingly good quality.
I retubed it with a 6K6, an NOS 12AT7 and a Tung Sol 12AX7. Outstanding and I see no reason at this point to replace the C-10 capacitor. I have, however, one waiting in the wings.
While my digital rack mount reverb is convincing, this has a tonality that has more warmth and presence. Great for surf and for blues as well. $399 US and well worth it.
I have all of the knobs at 12 o'clock. But will experiment in the snow storm tonight. 6" of the white stuff is on the way.
