When did the headstocks originally change from small to big?Early 80s?

I have no opinion on this model either way, but thanks for listening to the masses, Mr. Hall. The important part is that this is the result of programming new CNC machines. They're operational!! Backlog reduction time!

Mitch: Yep, I think they got much bigger in the early 80's when they started using Schaller tuners. Tuning heads on some deluxe models got slightly enlarged in the late 70's, like my '79 360 MG, when they started using Grover tuners.

Here's an example of the new headstock (I think) also in the new MID formula...

I didn't think Gumby was offensive.
Actually... I have a picture of Gumby playing a Rickenbacker inside my toolchest downstairs. I'll see if I can find a jpeg of it.
I, being 5'10" and less than 150 pounds, believe that skinny can be beautiful.

Clive what model & year is that? Hard to tell it's MID from the picture, but regardless it has a great looking headstock.

I thought some of the headstocks on early 60s 600 series guitars were also quite sizable.

It's a 2007 MID formula. Here's a better picture of the finish. I think it's a much nicer blue than the brighter MIDs before it. (It's not one of my guitars though.

That is a lovely shade of MID, and a darned near perfect job of finishing, too.

Yup, there was another brand-new MID at MARF (a 4003) and it was one of the first i've seen that I liked. it almost looked like Turquoise.

That's the same shade of blue (ducking thrown bottles and rocks) as my Rickentruck
