I'll also welcome you here, Reid.
Brian, I may have said it before, but it is worth saying again if I did - the walnut on that Ci is just beautiful!

And my new 4004 too!
In 3 three days of almost non-stop playing I have learned these things have an amazing range of tone. SO happy. Thanks again to the 4004 apostle Brian and his LK for the inspiration.
Has anyone de-VVTed their 4004? Mine came with the old toggle and pots and I realized I have never tried a 4004 pre-mod. I am also thinking it needs black hardware to match the black TRC. Anyone have spares/extras for sale?
Are 4004's required to be photographed laying down? On wood?

you can reverse the VVT mod ... you need a washer to put under the toggle switch ...

....or switch to the 4003 style larger toggle.
"Are 4004's required to be photographed laying down? On wood? "
Speaking for myself I can live without seeing a 4004 on your wood.
Great looking 4004.....I'm glad you are happy with your purchase. Enjoy!

I think you 'wood' have to do some routing to make that style switch fit.

The LK doesn't do it for me. I REALLY like the Walnut Laredo with the maple neck!

So, has anybody mod'd a 4004 with a 4003 toggle switch and concentric 500k pots for a 4001/4003 vibe?
I noticed, when a installed the toaster a couple of days ago, that my old '73 has all 330k pots. Is that normal? I never really looked before, and always thought they were 500k.

The bass at the top of this post that I traded to Jeff has the concentric mod with a dummy 3 position switch.

70s basses came from the factory with 250k ohm volume pots and 500k ohm tone pots ...
to my ear the 330k ohm pots sound a lot like 250k ohm pots ...
4004 basses sound good with the concentric pots ...
