Given the condition of this instrument do you consider that this asking price is over the top?
April 1961,the rarest of the rare, these don't come up for sale very often, this was 1 of 50 ever produced, original Fireglo finish is worn & played in,it has the original Gold Lucite pickgard and truss rod cover,it is 100% original & quite a good user friendly 4000,missing only the bridge cover, this is a no excuse bass,VG+;ohsc.$6000.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Its a lot of money to ask yeah, but look at it! That thing is one old guitar and theyre aint many of those around.
I agree it would be nice to see a reissue of it (yeah cant be hard to do) but then its not what we all think of as the classic rickenbacker bass is it?

You remember correctly. Not many months back Guitar Broker had a 2nd hand 1960 4000 available. It's condition was so good it was unreal! I don't remember what the asking price was, though. I still have a couple of pics thereof. If anyone would like to see them, please advise.

A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
