Well, I see that the English gentleman still has no bids on his bass.
Wints, do you have a link you can post for us to the Guitar Broker? I'd like to see that '61!

Given the condition of this instrument do you consider that this asking price is over the top?
April 1961,the rarest of the rare, these don't come up for sale very often, this was 1 of 50 ever produced, original Fireglo finish is worn & played in,it has the original Gold Lucite pickgard and truss rod cover,it is 100% original & quite a good user friendly 4000,missing only the bridge cover, this is a no excuse bass,VG+;ohsc.$6000.

Certainly a piece of history and that’s definitely worth something. To classify it as VG+, well that’s questionable! $6K? I think I’d rather pay the $4900 for the other ...

cheers

He had one better than that recently that was almost mint, simply incredible. It looked new. It was alot more money, too. Image

THIS is the bass I would like to see RIC reissue. It could be done quite easily I think....

If RIC ever re-issues this bass, I hope they don't use a six-string bridge. That little alteration kinda blows the "100% original" statement.

Its a lot of money to ask yeah, but look at it! That thing is one old guitar and theyre aint many of those around.

I agree it would be nice to see a reissue of it (yeah cant be hard to do) but then its not what we all think of as the classic rickenbacker bass is it?

Dane, that's no alteration. That is what was used in that period, a six-string bridge housing with four saddles. It wasn't long after this, though, that Rickenbacker started fitting the unit that we know today, except it was the sand-cast aluminum style.

Leftybass:
You remember correctly. Not many months back Guitar Broker had a 2nd hand 1960 4000 available. It's condition was so good it was unreal! I don't remember what the asking price was, though. I still have a couple of pics thereof. If anyone would like to see them, please advise.
