Well, maybe, i dunno - i haven't experienced both yet. 
I guess death is one of those abstracts that is most extreme in its emotional value, that it is a "go to" lyrical device. It is also a common theme in the running psyche's of most people.
Some of my favorite songwriters have been at least somewhat obsessed with death, but I can't think of one (of my favorite songwriters) that I liked obsessed with birth- I guess a lot of them are thinking more about where they're going than where they came from.
