The Janglebox recording is very very impressive.

The RicOsound recording sounds just like my 360 does through my Fender Twin without any outboard effects.

First of all, thanks to Peter for helping us. What a great guy!

To clarify, these are both the Ric-O-Sound unit, and not the JangleBox. Our original post was merely to explain that we think the Ric-O-Sound (or an appropriate substitute) is surprisingly "jangly" in the studio, left to its own devices. The second soundbite has some "compression" from our Garageband program.

Sorry for the error, Tom. I have corrected the labels of the mp3s, accordingly.

Based on the change in the posting description, I'll amend my comment. The Ric-O-Sound unit with a bit of compression is very, very impressive.

Welcome, first off (sorry I'm a little late!) and second CONGRATS on being able to share a love for playing music with your son... the kid has a bright future ahead. Enjoy it!

I must say that Matthew nailed the intro to "What Your Doing" perfectly! Very well done- makes me want to hear the entire song.

I play my Rick basses through a Janglebox all the time. It gives the bass just an extra touch of nastiness.

Tom and others seeking the optimal chime of Rickenbacker 12 strings. I have recently ordered a Gemini III which I have commented on in the Venturing Into The Shadows topic.

To my ear, his tone-shaper has provides a noticeable increase in the clarity of the Rickenbacker 12 string but without the harshness that accompanies treble. I purchased the unit in conjunction with Shadows' music but was pleasantly surprised of how it accentuated the sound of Rickenbackers too.

Peter, thanks for this interesting new wrinkle. We forsee a whole new thread just on this. The price is right! Perhaps someone could post a sample of its sound.

To complete our original entry, here's our finished song as excerpted previously in this thread. Again, this is the 360/12 with Ric-O-Sound played directly into the board.

In addition to our Rics, we own a couple of Martins. In May, we were invited to a workshop with Laurence Juber (Paul McCartney's old guitar player) who was on a promotional tour for Martin. That night, he was demonstrating his technique in DADGAD tuning (as in D-A-D-G-A-D). We came home and wrote this song just for fun. The acoustic is an old Gibson LG my mom bought for me when I was 5. (Here's a clue-Dwight Eisenhower was president.)

Elsewhere on this board, there are posts about The Byrds' sound and recording software for idiots. We have a vote on the latter, because we are idiots, and this is what we have figured out so far about GarageBand. We're still working on it.

As for the Byrds thing, this is our 360 with a Gretsch handling the lead at the end. We like the way these guitars intermingle, tonewise. The old marriage between Rickenbacker and Gretsch, created by the Beatles and the Byrds, still works for us. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
