Hey Dave, may I suggest spending some time with the EQs because I find a tremendous flexibility with the sound and tones when I'm playing my 4002.

Interesting reading Dave.

Sounds like a very different animal compared to other Ric basses.

Thanks for the detailed description!

Thanks Andrew.

David no question about the EQ. This thread was just a first knee jerk observation. This is a very new animal to me, and most of the fun now will be to tweak it. I'll give a follow up report in the future.

I read an interview a long time ago where Geddy said that he used the 4002 in the studio but didnt use it live. It would have been around the time of "Hemisphere's" actually.

It sounded like a cross between a Ric CII and a Jazz bass.

Nothing wrong with that kind of sound! Image

Dave, I have a gig August 10th that the 4002 would be great for. You will get it back before your Sept. gig, I promise. Image

Scott, he played it live at least once.

Jeff where is your gig in August?

Good question! I think it is at the Bedford, Ohio Home Days event. If the weather is good, I plan on using the 4005WB.

Dave, very informative - I love these "nuts and bolts" kind of threads. And let me also say Dale did an awesome job refinishing your 4002! They are just beautiful wood and color. Interesting the difference in sound from the HB1s. I got to play Gary's at the 75th a bit, and Jeff played it on stage, and the 4002 is a different animal but still identifiable as a Rick. Very strong presence and clean tones. Me likey!

It’s back… (the thread that is)

After a long week of being overly obnoxious and ******* off my fellow forum members (you both know who you are Image ), nothing unwinds me like a three day mini tour with my band.

For these shows a fairly large outdoor PA will be used. So for the first time I can really get an idea of the sound of the 4002, thru stage amplification and the “low z” directly connected to a high end board, at high volume.

I’ll be back on Sunday with pictures and a full report.
