for me anything older than 86 I don't usually like ...

and anything with only 4 strings seems weird ...

I play a 4001FL and I still get plenty of clank with out any frets. I find picking above the pu cover achieves better twang and behind the cover is more of a clank. By the way rutherford is one of my faves, I'm going to see him in October its not going to be the same as gabriel era but oh well.
