Hey wait a minute...I'm gettin' old and ugly and I'm doing some of my best work at this point...

One problem for the Stones was that they were losing Jones for a while before he died...unless you consider staring into space while listlessly shaking maracas to constitute a kind of 'stage presence'...

The stage presence of the band completely changed when he died, he was the one all the women wanted and was the focal point for most people, your eyes just naturally gravitated toward Brian Jones despite Jagger's spasmodic antics. They haven't had anyone with his stage presence since he died.

Ya Mick was jealous of Brian ... but the drug usage was taking its toll on Brian towards the end ... but he was the only one of the Stones that wasn't ugly ...

For me, it's as if there's been 3 different bands with the name "The Rolling Stones" over these past 40-odd years. Although somewhat coincidental, I don't think it's directly attributable to the changing of one guitar player, but more a result of the changing musical landscape.

I know lots of folks prefer the 60s line up, myself included. But I attribute it more to the times: the whole electric guitar/rock band thing was still sort of a new and innovative thing. Plus, there seemed to be so much more "energy" when they performed back then; both in the band and in the crowd. Like this:
