john-it's a 80's era warmoth that was put together by a friend of mine, and has changed hands quite a few times over the years. the neck has a really nice feel,as well as an extra fret or two. it has some really old gold reverse klusons, emg pickups,a brass nut and a recently added fender sticker. it's kinda heavy at 9.7 pounds, and if i keep it,i may replace the emgs, although i like the way the bass sounds and plays as is. the paint was done 20 some years ago,and has a nice "relic" look to it-there's a 3 inch belt rash on the back throo which you can see the body is ash. it's a polyester-type finish, and i think i may want to redo it one day. i always liked the look of pete thomas' p-bass. (pink w/tortoise pg). i just sold a 68 tele bass, and have always liked jazz basses, esp. w/ a rosewood unbound neck-this one just crossed my path.... :o

John,

Just a gentle word of caution re adjusting the new neck. I have an '80s MIJ '62 RI J-bass that needed a major set-up on delivery. The neck was extremely responsive to small tweaks of the truss rod. It went from the mother of all bows to back-bowed in two quarter-turns (spaced out by about 6 hours). I have a number of older US Fenders that I have set up and none have had anything like the sensitivity to truss-rod adjustment that the J-bass had. The good news is that it has been rock-solid stable since the set-up, and I'm using fairly high-tension ground-wounds.

I am particularly impressed by the refin. Brilliant colour choice!

50's P bass
50's P bass
Whatever you do, don't go with Fiesta Red.

I just bought a 50's P bass in that finish, and it looks almost like a bubblegum color, too salmon.
It looks good in pictures, but the real finish is not that great IMHO.

Great P bass however!

John is correct.

I think I am going to swap out the gold p/g for something else.
Hopefully it will make it a little more macho looking.
