I got my '76 FG second hand in 1985.
It had a clear pickguard, the PU cover removed and a Baddass bridge. I made the white pickguard years ago
but recently I ordered some new parts and got a vintage reissue case to restore her to original splendor.

I can't make up my mind which sound I prefer - the thud I get from the Thomastic Flat wounds or the growl I get from the Dean Markley Nickel roundwounds

I could just get another 4001 and have one of each.

I forgot to mention that I did the cap mod and have more volume/bottom. I think I will add the push pull cap switch for quick changes form 4001 to 4003 sound. Also the pu cover tends to get in the way but I love the look and it also improves the sound (a little)

My preference is the 60's look and sound of the British invasion. It's still thud for me.
(but how do you ignore the sound of Chris Squire and Geddy?)

Welcome Bill! :)

It really is imperative (if you haven't noticed already) that you absolutely must have more than one Rick bass.
