We could also start a worst cover version thread with this appropriately named album:

Beatles covers featuring Alice Cooper, CC Deville, Billy Idol, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Stevens, and Kip Winger. Ouch. There are a couple of cool tracks, including "Back In the USSR" featuring Lemmy on bass, John5 on guitar, and Eric Singer on drums, but still not very good IMO.

Rain - While My Guitar Gently Weeps. WHile they are a trib band, the do a version of WMGGW that is mind blowing. I used to like Jeff HEaleys best, but Rain changed my mind instantly. Best Beatles cover I have ever heard.

I wouldn't argue with very many of the previous suggestions, but when I heard Tommy Emmanuel's medley: Day Tripper - Lady Madonna live...it blew me away. If you've never heard it, you really need to give it a listen. Now there is some guitar playing....

All Beatles fans should also check out "Yellow Matter Custard". It's one in series of one-off tribute concerts (DVD/CD) done by Paul Gilbert, Mike Portnoy, and a couple of other guys depending on who they're doing a tribute for. The line up is Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, ex-Transatlantic, OSI, ex-Liquid Tension Experiment), Neal Morse (ex-Transatlantic, ex-Spock's Beard), Paul Gilbert (Racer X, ex-Mr. Big) and Matt Bissonette (Mustard Seeds, Jughead, The Squirts, Joe Satriani, ELO). Really great show that lasts about 2 hours and has a great song selection. I think the only place you can get it from is Mike Portnoy's web store, but it's definitely worth the money. Mike and Paul also pair up with some other guys to do tribute shows for Led Zeppelin, Rush, and The Who. All of them are good, but the Beatles one is the best.

Rain does do a great cover of WMGGW.......

Has anyone seen the cover of "Julia" that Sean Lennon does on the dvd "Come Together"-it's a celebration of John's songs performed by various artists. Sean does a stand up job on it, even though at the end of it he dedicates it to Yoko (I can't understand that). I also think the cover version of Come Together by Aerosmith was pretty well done-not as good as The Beatles production, but definitelt presentable!

Yes, I really enjoyed watching their version of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" on YouTube. Great job, without all the silly costumes...

I do not agree with you Brian. I thought "Butchering The Beatles" was very good. "Day Tripper", "I Feel Fine" and "Hey Bulldog" stand out for me. "Hey Jude" on the other hand was terrible. Overall I'd say a good buy. And I am VERY critical of Beatles covers

I'm a new member so I can't resist jumping into some of these discussions - this is a great forum! I like Steve Earle's cover of "I'm Looking Through You" and I've also heard Steve do an awesome live version of "Revolution".

That's an awesome version of WMGGW, Charly. Who are those guys?
