This is why I keep Ebay up all day at work on my monitor and at home. In the last year I've scored many cool items, including a 2005 620MID for $520.00 and a 1995 610/12JG for $500.00.

Hey Kenny, which do you prefer, the 610/12 or that 4003 you have coming?

Thanks for your kind words everyone, however there is a post-script to this thread.
The day after hitting the BIN button and paying for this bass, my Paypal payment was refunded, with the seller emailing me explaining that he couldn't/wouldn't go through with the sale, as his son had accidently listed the bass on his behalf for $599, instead of $1599. Whether this actually happened or not, or whether someone contacted the seller and pushed up the price post sale, I'll never know.
Clearly disappointed, I considered all sorts of action to take, like pushing the "breach of contract" angle; the "negative feedback flame"; the "I'm gonna send someone around to your place to collect MY bass" threat and that kind of stuff. I know my rights, the eBay rules and my prospects of success.
Some colleagues from the Forum offered assistance and advice which was much appreciated - thanks fellas.
Ultimately, I decided to use fair and reasonable negotiation tactics with the seller, giving him the benefit of the doubt. When you read the auction description, it's pretty obvious he knew the bass was worth more than the original BIN price. So, we've renegotiated and closed the sale again, this time at a price above the original $599 BIN price and below his $1599 actual asking price. I guess I've now got a bargain, rather than a steal.
I should also acknowledge the assistance of my trusty guitar mule, Dave Pascoe, who will be accompanying the bass to Melbourne in early April.

Darren, I don't think even Dave could swallow (or whatever) that thing. Let's hope the balloon doesn't break....
