I also have a red '85 4003 with BT as well. It's got the slimmest neck of all my Ricks. I always loved the red/black trim combo on the 4003. Doesn't work on 330's or 360's for me, though.

That blue one is a looker, too. Great birthday present! I almost got a blue with white trim (or might have been azureglo) when I bought my first Rick back in '77.

Take it easy,
Steve

I don't get it. No binding and wide inlays. Was this normal for those (80's-90's) years?

These were all bound.

It just got here. The blue is so much darker than the photos suggest. GORGEOUS. The seller's descriptions were spot on. It has about 3mm of tail lift and I am going to try and reduce it...eventually.

The slim neck is one of the things I like about mine too. It is a bit of a shock to go from my red to my DCM. The DCM feels like the fat end of a bat in comparison. So many people seem to pass on the red ones. Of course they used to do that with a few other colors like Walnut, Autumnglo, Azureglo, and Burgundyglo. The unpopular colors of one era become the treasures of another.

Happy Birthday, Sean!
I'm glad to see you got this. It's almost as purty as the MG/BT. Still got that one?
I still got mine, an '86. It's by far my favorite (Ric) player - and color combination.
Cheers!

Thanks Mike and everyone else. Yes, I DEFINITELY have the MG/BT. If any of them was to leave, it'd be the MB/BT.

I find the neck on my '86 Shadow the slimmest, fastest neck on any Rick neck I have ever owned, with the exception of my '66 4005. There definitely seems to be something very special about those necks in the mid to late '80's.

Yeah, my 86 and 85 are uber slim.
