Yeah, that would be me. The pad is still on the bass, it really is not as bad as it seems and does keep the back from getting the dreaded stinkfoot, er, I mean, buckle rash.
I actually won the auction for that bass and the seller backed out on me after I won - i was very angry.
He tried to end the auction early once he found out there were a few things that were misrepresented about the bass. By the time he did so it was past the time he could end it. He told me he e-mailed the bidders regarding the auction, that he had to take it off of ebay; he realized that the winning bidder might be unhappy with his claim to it being all original, which it wasn't.

I told him I would buy it anyway - he blew me off - - he told me that he'd just rather not sell it but he obviously had a better offer . We all know how this stuff works - whatever - he's a dirtbag. I was pretty unhappy. It all works out - i found one in a finish i like much better.
So, out of curiosity, was the bass refinned. If so, what parts?
I am not certain regarding it being refinished, in some ways it looks like it has but if so it was refinned MG, the same as it's original finish. The pickguard was a crudely made replacement, the PG screws were brass flathead wood screws, the "vintage" knobs were some bad looking and wrong sized knock-offs, the Grover tuners were falling apart, some minor re-wiring had been done; so it certainly did not qualify for all original as the description said.
Re: the "better" offer, he would have made more money by finishing the auction.
