You can see the difference between the early 71 FG, with a much paler centre, and your darker FG, that leads from late 71 into 72, like my old bass.

I'll get in touch with the owner of my old bass and see if he wants to look at the pots.

I have a vague feeling the pots on my Feb 72 may be 71s; I'll have to check. The jack plate is definitely LB though.

I finally had the time to do it - I'm sure they will flex back a little so I am going to leave the spacers in for a few days.
Scott was nice enough to share his shoe-bending wisdom so I just thought I'd check back with an update.

You can release the shoes, they may only relax a tiny bit.

Okay, I need some clarification. I have two RIHS pickups, and one set of shoes look smooth on the inside, like steel bar was formed into the shoes. The other set, on the V63 I got from Kevin, on the inside surface looks, not pitted, but like it is made out of a cast metal. They are not magnetic, will not magnetize, but have the look of being cast. Dare I try to spread them?

Both sets of shoes I have are not polished on the insides. Can you post good detailed pics of your sneakers, er, horseshoes, John?

I am looking at bending mine on my 2001 v63. I am very concerned about these snaping. They do look like a casting to me.

Mine didn't look cast - the chrome wasnt polished/finished inside though. Take a photo please.

I am MUCH happier. I was able to bring down my HS so the output is balanced perfectly.

In total, the process took me about an hour and I thrashed about 6 pieces of allthread and 4 or 5 nuts (i really torqued that stuff - i thought it was better to keep cutting new ones). I spent maybe $2.00. Thanks so much for all the help!

I will try and get a good closeup of both basses shoes. My photographic skills have all but disappeared with digital......
