I also had the opportunity to join Rush on stage for 'Circumstances.' I jam with them on occasion, and Geddy asked me to sit in on this tune since he was having trouble singing & playing during some of the more active bass passages during this tour.
(Disclaimer: This image is total fabrication, and any events claiming to involve myself - Mark Walker - actually joining Rush onstage and/or playing music with them in close proximity and to their collective knowledge, are entirely false. Any implication that Geddy Lee has difficulty playing his own basslines is also false. Any claim having been stated that I - Mark Walker - could play basslines created by Geddy Lee with equal or better execution, once again: False; pure fabricated conjecture. This photo, or any additional photos that exist showing Mark Walker in the company of, or sharing the same visible space as Rush or any of its members together or separated, is a farce created purely for Mark Walker's amusement and/or fantastical delusions of self-importance. Said intentions of self and/or public amusement are intended for entertainment purposes only, and hold no implication that Rush is anything less than totally kick-*** and awesome. The name 'Rush' is copywritten and owned by its musical entity's namesake and its conjoined proprietors.)

Damn Mark – I'm sorry you missed playin in the show in VA on Saturday night. I’m sure the crowd would have given you a standing ovulation…. Did you a Geddy do a dueling bass solo thing? Hahahahahha that is just too funny!
The show here in VA was great as well. I still think the Ric sounds better than the Fender – but hey what do I know? I may be prejudice.

What... you didn't
see me???
Yeah, the J bass is OK if you like your tone
GENERIC, but I much prefer the distinctive Rick tone, too.

The DVD is now out.
Geddy's Rickenbacker 4001 in "A Passage to Bangkok" sounds great on the DVD!!
Has that classic ESL type tone to it.
I really wish he would use it more often.
Maybe he will unleash it for a track when they do their next album in 2010.
Yeah, keep dreaming.

Can you source this? It sounds like the Ricky to me. I know Tom Sawyer is the Jazz and that he was mixing it up on that album... but the tone of the bass on YYZ seems, to me, a lot closer to the tone on Limelight and Red Barchetta, which are the 4001.

On 'Moving Pictures': Tom Sawyer, YYZ, Limelight, Vital Signs and possibly Witch Hunt were ALL the '72 Jazz Bass.
The Rickenbacker was used on Red Barchetta and The Camera Eye....(maybe) Witch Hunt...

If you have a Fender Jazz Bass and want to get fairly close to his studio tone for the 'Moving Pictures' tracks he used it on, turn all the knobs on full, then back the treble pickup off 1/4-1/2 a turn.
Plus a little EQ, and a little compression, and blah blah blah...

anyway you get the idea.

No no no. He said in a very recent interview with BPM or the late Bass Guitar that Limelight was the RIC--the interviewer asks him. If you need me to dig it up I will--it's somewhere at
http://www.bassplayer.com I think. May be on YouTube--it was a video, and the part about Limelight didn't make the paper mag. As for YYZ, I can't say, but based on the tone I really think it's the Ricky.
