The nice thing about this is I can get to change my tailpiece everytime I change my strings. So I had the stock Ric strings before using the original tailpiece, and then I changed to D'Addarios and used the Hipshot, and now I changed again to D'Addarios half-rounds with the original tailpiece back.
I don't mind the opinions of 'keeping it stock, original, hurt its value, looks ugly' etc, it's my bass and I'd do what I want with it for playability. I had to have the original tailpiece modded and had Dane Wilder put in two additional screwholes just to keep the tailpiece from lifting anyway. I've maintained that I'd like to keep it original but what for, if the playability or tone is compromised because of ****** design and /or material. Had Rickenbacker solved the tailpiece lift issue, no one would be talking of Hipshots or Badass bridges, but as it is, all we get are 'it's coming, wait for it, be out soon', etc. And if we're talking of McCartney, his has the 5 screws on the tailpiece too, so it's like I have the best of both worlds, I still have the Fireglo AND the 4001C64S tailpiece, so there!
Besides, if I still have the choice, I'd never sell this anyway. I buy guitars to play and make music and make a little money on the side (really little, btw), not keep them in cases and in temperature controlled rooms just for conversation or collection sake or to enjoy on my own. Of course I take care of my guitars, they're all in pristine condition, no dings, no scratches, plays like butter, no one ever touches or play them except me or my other band members. In pristine condition and playable AND actually getting a lot of gig time, how can you top that?
