Hey, I have a question for you Janglebox fans and equipment experts. Do you regularly experience feedback problems with the Janglebox Gain knob and your 360-12s in the Bright settings ? Seems whenever I crank the Gain up to enhance that Byrdsy sound (Bright mode, and Gain past the 1:00 postion and the Attack at around 3:00 position) it gets real sensative to feeding back. When I back off the JB's Gain enough, the feedback ends but I don't nearly have the volume wanted. My 360-12 has the scatter wound toasters. This feeding back happens with about six or seven different amps, so I don't think its a question of the amp's master Gain or Master Volume switch driving the feedback... I associate it with the JB's Gain setting when in the Bright mode.

Now I don't experience this problem nearly as much with my 330 (6 string) which has High Gain pups. Nor with my solid-body 650-A with HBs. Using the same half dozen amps and the same pedal board and the same JB Bright mode.

So is it the 12 string's chime causing the feedback through the JB's Gain ? Is it the Toasters ? Is it a combo of these factors with the JB's Gain ? As mentioned, I've experienced it with quite a few amps. Do any of you gear experts have any thoughts on this feedback/Gain setting problem ?

I had purchased a Janglebox 2 years ago with the intention of hooking it up with my 370/12 vp and all I got was feedback and a bunch of racket from that pedal. That pedal is not helpful if you are trying to get the Byrds sound. I had it plugged into my 40th anni twin reverb and I could not believe the racket I experienced with this thing.. I have since purchased a Diamond compressor and running it thru a vox ac-15 and I have that great Byrds sound to a tee..well as close as you can get it since the studio was responsible for that exact sound you hear on the record. I do not hear any feedback with this pedal and I have it full out for my 12 string. After 20 plus years searching for that sound the Diamond did it for me.

You must be new around here Nancy, as folks generally make a pretty serious effort to keep things a bit more civil here and those who don't usually don't last long on this forum. It's unfortunate that you didn't have a good experience with the JangleBox. However, far more of us have had quite the opposite, use them all the time without a problem and get just the sound we're looking for out of ours. There is even a guy named McGuinn who sometimes uses one. Steve Lasko is a frequent contributor here and has always been helpful when it comes to folks having problems with the pedals. Pop the top off of one some time and look at the inside and you'll see that the workmanship is absolutely first rate. I can't tell you why you had problems with your JangleBox and it does happen from time to time, but most owners have been quite happy with them. I hardly think you are an authority on the quality or lack of quality in the pedals and I'm sure you aren't an authority on any legal issues between Rickenbacker and JangleBox. There is certainly nothing wrong with giving an honest report of problems you may have or had with any piece of gear, or simply explaining that you didn't like it, but it's generally done in a far more respectful manner here. If you hang around here long enough you may come to understand this. In the mean time, I'd suggest you save your attitude for other forums where such behavior is the norm.

Strange, I've had mine for years(used live and in the studio) and never had a problem with it, did you try contacting them to see if it was an issue to fix,or did you simply think that they all must sound like this and moved on to a more expensive compressor? They have excellent customer service and I'm sure they would have made it right. Also, did you use the right adapter, as they are reversed from the standard boss type, so maybe you fried it. I don't know, but they have a great reputation and would not still be in business making a specialized item(it's all they do)if it was not delivering the goods. Sorry you had such a bad experience, but posting a response so bad that an administrator had to edit it is really not the way to express an opinion that anyone will take seriously.

Just used mine live on my 360/12 through a Jaguar amp (nice amp, BTW).
Mine boosts quite a bit, so I had the knobs about 10 o'clock and three o'clock. Bright switch.
Played rhythm without it, stomped on it for intros and lead solos. Behaved beautifully. Was playing loud.
The JB articulated the Rick wonderfully.

As I posted elsewhere, my band gave its annual performance two weeks ago. I played my 355JL and 360/12 through a 100 Watt Vox Valvetronix. In practice, and in tight quarters, I had some feedback issues. I don't gig live enough to have any confidence about the electronic angles. I figured it was something I wasn't doing right. With the actual performance, I had the Janglebox hooked up, but I never turned it on. This was partly because I got a bright compressed sound out of my amp, and didn't want to risk a burst of feedback. I need to better understand how the Janglebox works in a live context.

I'm glad I have a Janglebox. It's very useful in the basement as we jam here. In a recent recording, we hooked it into our Vox, set it on Bright, and compressed it on the amp also. It sounded full and twangy. It's worthwhile discussing the feedback issue. If there were inappropriate comments made, I didn't see them. It's fair enough to discuss the pros and cons of anything, politely expressed. From my perspective, I would buy the Janglebox again. I'm still trying to fully grasp its potential, but that's more a comment about me than the device, at least for now.

Jerry --- have you ever pushed your JB Gain setting past the 10 o'clock positon much, when in the Bright mode ? Rich F.

I recently purchased a JangleBox, and it absolutely nails that "Vintage", treblely, jangly sound when I plug in my RIC 6 and 12 string guitars. The pedal is also relatively quiet. The folks at JangleBox are very friendly and deliver excellent customer service. I'm sorry if there are any issues between Rickenbacker and JangleBox, but this compressor pedal really delivers the goods !

I got a Jangle Box for Christmas...it does what it is designed to do...which is to give you THAT Byrds sound.
It was GREAT for recording...I record my guitars through a Vox Pathfinder head using the line out so feedback was not a issue...live it was barely controllable...there is a fine line in finding the right setting. I sold it to buy some other stuff.
If I was a lead guitar player or a rich guy I would have kept it...but I'm a rhythm player and I did not see much use in it.
Don't get me wrong...it's a GREAT pedal...just not for me.

Precisely what I think, too.....props to you, Steve Lasko! My JangleBox + VOX AC-15 TBR w/Weber AlNiCo Blue Dog is simply sublime. Can't get enough of this combo. (Side note: Whatever may be said about the English-made AC-15 reissues, I've got one of the solid ones.) Keep on keepin' on.....Goofyfoot.

If only RIC had the same excellent customer focus as Steve and his team........they could learn a LOT from the small guys on the block.

Mine's a definite keeper. Switch it to the "bright" setting and you'd think you were being visited by angels. That "normal" setting is really growing on me, too. Late.......Goofyfoot.
