my number 1 effect is my bass pod ... but the tech 21 vt bass and the nxr bass di+ fill in certain tone and character that the pod leaves out.

I've been messing with using a second amplifier (Vox AD50VT) for adding distortion for a biting edge. Mostly pushed by my new 12 string bass to get the highs nice and clear or distorted a bit. I just run an uneffected signal off my RBI to that amp. Still working on dialing in the right amount of distortion for the Rick, but it sure chimes nicely with a 12 stringer. Blends nicely with the bass rig.

O.K. - So where to buy?

Cheers, Mike

Here's a picture of my pedal board ...
HPIM0744.jpg
First I split the signal into 4 with a Rolls mixer.

The the 4 parallel signals go into:

1-line 6 bass pod modeling an ampeg amp and modeling a rat distortion pedal. This gives me a dirty retro ampeg sound.
2-mxr bass di+ This gives me a clean modern bass sound. Clean highs and clean lows. It also has a seperate switch for a modern distortion.
3-marshall governor. This gives me a 60s marshall sound. I set it for a small amount of distortion.
4-Tech21 VT bass. This gives me a growlly tube ampeg sound with a small amount of tube style distortion.

I combine all 4 back into a mono signnal and run it into an amp or pa system. All of the pedals have a bypass except for the bass pod. So I can on one or more channels get a dry uneffected signal as well.

The key to making this work is running it parallel instead of series.

The vt bass pedal is a nice addition to my pedal board.

I see, the Rolls is passive so it can be 4>1 or 1>4 (in/out). Something to consider. Thanks, Jeff.

Dare I delve into your amp settings, Jeff? (PLEASE tell me you set it flat...) :)

Right now I am running into a small behringer cheapo combo amp ... I have yet to try it in my pa or one of my 3 ampegs ... but the behringer settings are all of the tone controls 12 or 1 o'clock axcept for the high mids which is at 9 oclock.

I have been playing with the setup ... I am using the vt bass pedal for a moderately clean ampeg growlly tube amp sound. The Marshall Guv'nor is great for a Squire overdriven marshall sound. Again the whole parallel approach really makes this work.
