The sad part is, he used to be a really good guitarist back in the day. Somehow I don't think he'd accept boots in trade...

Ricks were built with virtually the exact same color..it was called Ruby, and was a Candy Apple Red with a silver base coat, just like Gretsches. I've got two of them, BTW, a 360WB/6 and a matching 360WB/12.

Fender's Candy Apple Red used a gold base coat, incidentally...

Did the Ric ruby almost 'sparkle' like the Gretsch? I'd love to see a picture of that.

Yes, it did. Typical of Candy Apple finishes with a coarse metallic base coat... Gold gives a warmer undertone to the red, so it's a matter of preference, not of "which is better". And, since each manufacturer has its own formula, the choice is that of instrument, not color option.

Rickenbacker really should consider making the 360F again, this is wonderful.

I have a gig on Sunday and will be replacing my 330/6 with the Gretsch. I'll let you know how I get on.

Pictures once I've got a new battery for my Canon digital camera.

You honestly have to see one of these Jaguar Tan 125ths in person to fully appreciate it. The color combo is so VINTAGE, with no phony "relicking" necessary to convey the feeling of playing something 50+ years old. The sides and back are a lovely and evocative metallic greenish-gold.

I congradulations Rob, excellent choice. I have the to-tone green. The finnish on these are like a fine automobile. When she first saw it, my wife asked if it was made of metal ! They certainly do rock. Have you tried surf guitar on it yet ?

No, but I tell you what, it does some sweet harmonics, and some awesome dirty rock sounds, and it even copes with a bit of bottleneck!

A true all rounder.

Glad I took the plunge, but I did get a bargain.

It's really hard, in my experience to find something that captures that "true all rounder". Congrats on the guitar. This model just made the list of possibilities for me to pick up sometime in the next few months.

I also decided to take the Gretsch plunge---I'm buying jdog's 6120 with TV Jones pups. I used to have a 6125 many years ago that I traded away in a fit of youthful foolishness, and I'm looking forward to having another one!

Seems to be Gretsches everywhere you look these days.

There was a free festival on locally at the weekend with loads of great bands, and everyone seemed to be playing a Gretsch of some description..

Then I got home and watched the highlights of the 'T In The Park' festival and there was KT tunstall and her band all playing Gretsch guitars!

Great stuff!
