Okay, Jeff, that will be all!
My solution was to have more than one Rick and put flats on some and rounds on others.

Sorry. Did all that yelling hurt your ears?

That's what I did:
4005WB - Chromes
4001s - TI JR
4001V63 - Chromes
4003 TI JF

I'm late, and have limited experience, but Fender 9050's are fairly high tension.

Jeffrey: Why not give us a description of the differences in tone and feel.

Sure not! I can't hear out of my left anyway.

I was just funning, and by the time I posted you had put the second pair up which made it even funnier to me!

Yes they are. I bought two pairs (hey, they were on sale for $13 each locally) and when I put them on the 4004C the neck moved wuite a bit from the Roto rounds I had on it, and the Rotos are known to be higher tension. Besides, the 9050s feel more taut than other strings I've tried, round or flat. I have them on my SX Jazz and they sound great on it.

I like that idea. Could someone underwrite the whole experiment as a consumer research report, please? Or just send a check?
I don't think roundwounds are so much fun, they're rough on my fingers and harder to slide around on. I have a busy, kinda slippery-slidy playing style, a bit o' the Macca if I may say so. And with bright flats like the chromes, I'm not missing anything from the springy roundwound sound except a bit of string noise. Why work harder than I have to?

To get that piano-y clank? So many overtones come off rounds. My '75 4001 is just dripping with them. i just changed strings (Webstrings cheapie Stainless) on my 4003S because I put a magnetic HS and a '73 HG (neck) in it and the strings on it were dead. At a jam today, with my SVT-410HLF it sounded truly wondrous.
