I had been under the impression Japan would have been the 'larger' importer of Ricks. Read and learn.
I know how much Workman's comp can run on a company with less than 50 employees, but I wasn't aware there was a 16% increase in the costs this year. Pretty stout increase for a small, private company to absorb.

We've already seen the effect of this, effective Sept. 1, even though it "technically" hasn't been decided.

Considering the 'risk' involvement for many RIC employees, and the way CA bases its valuation per $100 in salary for an employee, pretty steep increase.

Two things.

I'm proud to support an American business that has prinicples, especially since they make my favorite instruments.

Also, picture 5 in the Bloomberg link looks like a Monte Brown to me rather than a fireglo. It says the photo was taken August 6, 2008. Are they still crankin' out the Montezumas? Or is that just a particularly brown looking fireglo? It's lefty, so perhaps it's a MB. Whatever it is, it looks awesome with the full width inlays!

How nice of the board to release a recommendation that makes doing business in CA even more expensive than it is, ensuring that more businesses flee the state. Brilliant.

I was just in Southern CA for work on sales visits, but there was no way I would have had enough time to stop by the factory with our visit schedule. I really want to do that someday. I may start traveling there each quarter. I'd also like to swing by Kanstul Musical Instruments as well (maker of my new bass trombone). Kanstul reminds me a lot of Ric, down to the father and son angle. I've heard that California is very expensive for employers.

I just found a neat website that in theory calculates the cost of living difference between various locations:

Click on a city and you can then do a delta between two cities. Denver to Santa Ana is an 8.5% increased cost of living according that site. Denver to San Diego is a whopping 30% higher cost of living, but supposedly employers don't pay much more there on average.
