We didn't even know this was out there, but this is a completely beautiful melody, written by Victor Young, who wrote many television and movie sound scores.

One of Tom's older brothers sat around and played this song on the piano in the late 50's and early 60's. It's embedded in his mind. (He sees a psychiatrist tomorrow. )

But, seriously, what a beautiful melody. And yes, that's Richard Boone, before Have Gun, Will Travel.

I don't like to say it, but I remember this show and how surprised I was to see Boone on HGWT; I had thought he was a doctor (I was about 6 at the time...)!

Here's a nice guitar version of the theme, which was a Hank Marvin staple for years, too:

I sure enjoyed watching the clips. Remember Mannix, Barnaby Jones, Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, All in the Family, Happy Days, The Doris Day Show, Lance Link Secret Chimp, HR Puffinstuff, The Rockford Files, Bonanza, St. Elsewhere, Trapper John, Sanford and Son just to name a few.

This one's definitely a classic...

"This is Jim Rockford. At the tone, leave your name and message. I'll get back to ya."
