I think that it is a good thing this forum keeps the bashing and trashing to a minimum, and maintains a good level of interest due to the diverse range of topics. I don't see any evidence of freedom of speech being in jeopardy, but remember, you can't yell fire in a crowded theatre. Things discussed respectfully and rationally, whatever your opinion is, has been welcomed since I've been here. It's really only when it crosses the line nastiness or hateful irrelevancy that things get deleted or edited.

There are a good many threads on here of people discussing what they believe are the shortcomings of Rickenbacker instruments, and/or the backlog, but when it gets personal or outright offensive, something is done.

I personally have not read the thread here that was deleted, but I know if it was, that there was good reason. Recently, there was a thread where someone posted a very offensive statement that blew up to 4 pages(within an hour) of outraged members that needed immediate deletion. If not for this action, several people would have left the forum, and many more would have some hard feelings over something that had NOTHING TO DO WITH RICKENBACKERS.

Speaking of freedom of speech (huh), as they say, freedom means responsibility in the first place. Them they also say that "your freedom is limited by the freedom of others", or, in other words, "your freedom ends where the other's freedom begins" (sorry i do not know the proper English equivalent).

This is true, that is definitly illegal, However here is something that has been bothering me for sometime now and nobody knows the answer too, Is it ok to yell "MOVIE" in a crowded firehouse ? anyone.

This sure degenerated from valid discussion.... I for one will miss John's (Blue Angel) input and electrical knowledge.

I know the thread over on the RIC forum our deleted thread spawned from, and of the post that Kira summarized, and even thought I am not totally happy with the recent "social pressure" censorship that has manifested lately here on RRF, the intolerance to less than praising comments about Ricks, I agree with Peter that it was inappropriate to bring the RIC discussion here. As for the OP over at RIC, I suspect "stirring the pot" for personal reasons. I see that locked thread on RIC is now gone.

I agree with you that the thread should not have been dragged over here John, but it was and it was civilly responded to on this forum if not the other (IMO). I for one was not happy by how it was handled on either forum, but then what's it got to do with me?

Maybe I'm kinda crazy, but I'm one of those people that actually does read the rules before registering on a forum.

On the one hand, I thought the deleted thread brought up some interesting points and I would have liked to have seen the discussion develop in a positive direction (which I thought it was). On the other hand, having read the rules, I can also understand why it was removed.

Remember, it's not what you say...it's how you say it.
Instead of calling someone a
"fat, old has-been"

say instead:
"an elderly gentleman of moderate heft and historical significance."

That will at least sound a little more PC.

BTW...last time I checked, the locked thread over on the RIC forum was still there. It wasn't deleted AFAIK.

Hey, Daniel...welcome to the forum. I'm definitely crazy, but not because I read the forum rules before registering...(I'm afraid it's a bit more organic than that)...and I've gotten a topic or two deleted in my day.
