That was incredible to be that close to his instruments. Too bad the Rick wasn't there though. It looked like the strings on the Hofner had green silk on them. Could it be Pyramids? I had read that he used LaBellas.

It sounds like his 1963 Hofner is a cut above all his other Hofners. Even his older ones, and the reissues. Kind of like other vintage instruments, some just tend to sound a little better than others I guess.

A friend has 3 Hofners one from the '60s and two reissues. The one from the '60 blows the other two away IMO. The reissues sound good but just can't tounch the original. One of the reissues is a Cavern (?) bass with the flat back and the pickups close near the neck. The other is more like Maccas from the '60s.

The Youtube vid is dead now.

I'm trying to answer questions elsewhere about Macca's arsenal of basses.

Just click on the link, it takes you to the new page (which is blank). then all you do is highlight the URL, and hit enter, or whatever it is you do when you type http://www.rickresource.com, or one of my favorites, http://www.catsthatlooklikehitler.com

Well, I finally got to watch the video and I thought it was great! Sorry the Ric wasn't there, but it sounds like Macca still uses it in studio from time to time...
And the catsthatlooklikehitler.com site was good too! Heil Kitler!!!
