Interesting. Cool ideas. The 4002 style pickguard just doesn't work for me though......but nobody ever said that I have sophisticated tastes. :D

I was debating whether I should do an inlaid 4003-ish guard on my 4004Cii/8 project. Since the bass is maple I was going to do mine in walnut. It's also getting the LK p/u treatment.

What kind of wood are you using for the fingerboard? Perhaps the same for the inlaid PG?
