I gotta agree with PW. Love the look of 'multiple' or layered bursts, possibly in a blue. You mentioned autumnglo as a consideration, Peter, don't you have (or had) a Rick in this finish? Or very similar to it?

Yes Stan, something similar. There is a lot of decision making left yet. But you are right, I should go with something different.

The antigua is interesting, and a more saturated champagne burst would also be something to see, but a tobacco/dark wine burst to lighter center to show the maple is so... so.... rich in a traditional man's den kind of way.

John: Add another recommendation for the burst. I cannot disagree.

Peter, perhaps you could ask the person doing your finish for suggestions or test samples of finishes. Paul W. is building an acoustic for me, and I explained that I didn't have anything specific in mind for a finish, but was interested in anything green or blue. Paul sent out some samples and I ended up going with a finish that I never would have come up with on my own. The process you're going through now should steer you in the general direction. When you get to a "rough idea" of the finish you're looking for, some test samples could certainly help in the decision making process.

Peter, I always thought a Fender style traditional 3-tone sunburst would look good on a Rick. I photoshopped you a picture of a 350 so you could sorta visualize what one would look like with that finish (Ignore the fact that I used a V63 as a basis. The general look is what I was after). I took the liberty of giving it a tort lower pickguard, because I think it fits the finish better that your current gold one does.

- 350 with sunburst finish and tort pickguard
Whatcha think?

Well Daniel, I must say that it doesn't look too bad at all. I especially appreciate the workup as it really gives a good sense of how it would look. Another example of why the burst is probably the way to go.

Wow, it reminds me of my '59 Melody Maker, but way nicer. Very masculine with the tortoise shell.

Jerry, you'd end up somewhere in the green spectrum with that. A teal or such.

I like the "Tequila Sunrise Burst." (as Warmoth names it, anyway...)

Sir Andrew: Yet another interesting one. This could take a while.
