Other way around for me. Being a southerner, I think "hick" when I hear it said "bock."

...and I guess I'm with you, Ronn...I'm not overly passionate one way or other about this, although sometimes 'Americanization' drives me nuts. We've been at war with a country for years now, the name of which most of us (including the Prez) refuse to pronounce correctly: yet another flashback to the '60's. I'm just relieved that we seem to have reached a certain level of sophistication at this point that prevents us from pronouncing the Democratic candidate's name as though it ryhmed with 'Alabama'...

By the way, Ronn, I've been meaning to ask for a long time: do you pronounce the second 'n' in your name, or is it 'silent'?
On the first point, I realize we're here to discuss Rics and all things associated but I do get tired of threads which in my opinion serve no purpose or are just silly. At what point does someone say "I gotta post a thread about this!" This one just seems to be about a guy correcting another guy who mispronounced the word Rickenbacker, or am I missing something? I also like the threads(not so much on this forum but often on others) like "What color pickguard should I get?" or "Should I buy another bass?" Whatever...

Ronn is my way of shortening Ronnie my given name. Just wanted to be different I guess.

Don't worry, Ronn...you've succeeded! (...and not just because of that 'silent n'...)

They would actually be "Ricks". RIC is the acronym for the the Company name, and is short for Rickenbacker International Corporation.
See, as shortened name, either is technically "right," but I have always referred to them as "Rics" largely because of the company abbreviation. The "K" at the end always seemed silly to me, I don't know why...

Since Pete calls them BACKers, it makes me wonder what Macca, Harrison and Lennon called them. I also wonder what Entwistle called them...

About half of America pronounces my first name as if it's a large Egyptian city. I was hoping the emergence of "Deep Space Nine" would have seen a general enlightening of the populus about that, but, alas. Every time I hear "KAIRA" (or alternately, KERRA or KERRY (?!), I get a little flash of "Dueling Banjos" in the back of my mind. That's OK, Bubba, just call me honey.
Europeans get it 100%.

There are Beatle interviews around (including Harrison on our hold music, if you time it right; and Lennon, from a '70s radio interview) where they say "Backer." Like I said, I've never heard a Brit say it wrong.
