Boston created music that was absolutely brilliant and technically perfect and Brad had to be one of the best and most recognizable singers I have ever heard in my entire life. I was really sad to read of his passing last March. Since he was a personal friend of yours you have my sincere condolences.

I heard that his parents were Canadians who moved to Danvers, Massachusetts. Is that true?

Good luck with your search for a 4005. That model Rickenbacker bass has classic lines and is highly desirable.

David, I spent the weekend cleaning out the attic and I almost missed this nice thread. I hope you will be able to locate a 4005 through your visits.

Your comments bring up more than a feeling or two from the 1980s and I am thrilled you took the time to let us know of your days with Boston.

A friend of mine who has played a 4005 or two in his time compared the tone of my 4003 (with two Toaster pickups) to the tone of a 4005. It is fretless, which complicates comparison, but he said the tone was similar in its clarity. Might be a mod worth considering if you can't find a 4005 you're happy with.

I did a test on a Dutch bass player forum with all my Ricks and ChrisP's 4005 to see if anyone could spot the 4005 in an mp3 I made of all these basses. No one was able to tell. Most thought my 4003 MID/BT was the 4005. Some thought my '73 with flats was. They sound a lot more similar than I thought before I heard the 4005. And the 4005 doesnt sound as semi acoustic as I expected it would. It still sounds very nice though. I still want one. But not as bad as before I played one..

If there is any discontinued RIC bass I am lusting after, it is, far and away, the 4002.
