Wow, that 4002 has a few miles on it! I really like the flame on the neck.

Hey, here's an idea, RIC should reissue the 4002 make it "relic" style copied after Ginger's bass...

(OK donning nomex underwear...)

ginger_lee wrote:well heres my darlin..i ordered her on my 21st birthday in 1981..shes been my faithful companion ever since..i used and still use this bass as my main instrument..i played music with her fulltime as my living from the day i got here in april 82 til the 2004..im not gigging just now but once i get some gigs ill be using her .
the stretch marks and age spots on her are from so much playing..as you can see ive worn the finish off in front of the fretboard by my slap upright double slap technique..finish on the back has worn from wear on clothing....also my hand has removed finish from the neck as well
That's a pretty rare bass.

I learned from one of our 4002 gurus here that all that extra wood there gives it superior sustain. It's true!

Always great to see pics of your 4002 Ginger, especially one thats so well "loved"! :)
John - I'll try to get some additional shots of my 4002. I'm afraid the ones I posted don't properly show off the character of the maple.

Just curious - was the 4002 available in anything other than Mapleglo or Walnut?

glad to see you chiming in on this one, Ginger. that's a pretty special bass - made all the more special given the fact you've had it and played it steadily since new.

i'm home for the holidays, here are a couple quick shots of my '78 Walnut.

Another great Walnut 4002 - thanks Bryce!
Here are a couple of pics of my 4002 in lower light to show the birdseye:

Cool Bryce - let me know if you have any gigs in TO coming up. We really need to have a Toronto mini confluence at some point...

a confluence would be a blast - i should have a few more basses out there in the new year (a '64 4001, a CS, and maybe a couple more).

i'll keep you posted on shows too - please do the same if you're playing.

I'm another Wes that agrees they do not look as well balanced. I know they are special models and the figuring in each is lovely, I just don't care for the overall asthetics. That said, I'd love to have one in my stable :D

Well, my name isn't Wes, (but our usernames are very similar...could that be it?) however I also think the 4002 has got to be the ugliest bass ever produced by Rickenbacker. You couldn't give me one. Just as well, because they don't come cheap nowadays. I'm happy to let y'all fight over 'em while I sit back watch.

Rare? Yes. Unusual? Definitely. Desirable? Completely subjective.
