Model of the Week Eleven: The 2030/2050

A guy in college had one, white /BT, tried it a couple of times....could do nothing with it. it reminds me of a telecaster body from fender with the top horn modified. They are definitely a very "non-Ric" bass compared to the 4000 series...don't think I would ever want one(and considering how many Rics I have had, will probably not happen)...jeff rath made good use of the ones he has/had but I guess it is all in the hands of the player...didn't work for me..

I watered my 2030 and fed it plenty of "Miracle Growl" and pretty soon it grew into a real Rickenbacker.
Other than the body, it's all stock, though I did move the bridge pickup back a bit.
Sound-wise, with a good amp and careful choice of strings, you can get just about any sound you want out of it. I really like it set to "squeeky clean". About fifteen minutes after I finally got it reassembled, I was testing it out, just fooling around, and stuck an SM57 in front of My Traynor YBA200 stack and got this with half rounds. Lately, I've had it strung with flats for more of that big low-end '60s sound.

That is still one of the BEST project basses I have ever seen. IMHO If the 2030 looked like that they would probably still be in production.

I believe the switchover from the single coils to the HB2's was in 1989....that is what Mr. Hall told me concerning the RIC 230 guitar, and I'd assume it was the same for the basses.

Probably true, I got a 2030 today that's stated to be a 1989 by the decoder.It's dead quiet, even when I stand next to a hum source that the 4003s all pickup on.
Healthy output from the pups too.

You got a later 2030 with humbuckers then. Roundwounds all the way.
