Thing is Dane, as said earlier in this post, 12- or 8-string bass is great in a 3-piece/Cheap Trick setting, where one wants SOMETHING to fill in the sonic gap when the guitarist goes for a solo or countermelody.
In other words, I agree with you.

I'm glad to hear you say that. You are not alone.
With two skinny string players and keyboards, no real fill is needed. But it seems as though these melody section guys always want to throw their weight around in the rhythm section. Neither the drummer or I appreciate most of their input. Over time he and I have learned to just shut up and do what we do best.....drive the band. No input necessary.

Many guitarists want you to be a octave pedal for their root note using a tone that cannot actually be heard, And they just love to say that your Roland 60 supercube (Do you remember them) gets in the way of their 100 watt Marshall.
There is no way that your bass is allowed to be as big as their head!

That's why I have a 1600 watt Ampeg bass amp. No guitarist or sound man can override me!

The last two bands I've been in, I keep asking (as my pants legs are flappin' away in front of my amp): "Are you guys
sure I'm not too loud?"
To which they have replied: "The bass can
never be too loud!"
Me: "Okaaaay!?"

Yes, Eden, I am still playing my Waterstone 12vers! I love them! Just put one down (orange finish, 34" scale). I also have a new (used) 4003 Rick I am REALLY enjoying, I put some Ernie Ball flats on it and is has an amazing presence.
Also, Waterstone Indra basses with my 50s band, with flats of course!
