Skip all of that, and make a 4004 Cii with 4002 p/up spacing. Yeah baby.

Re: Official Prediction Thread- C series replacement
I love the toaster horseshoe idea, im so on board with that, but now im thinking about a finish, so whaever the bass is that will be released, i would love for it to be in turquiose or sea foam green, or better yet be available in both finishes.
Re: Official Prediction Thread- C series replacement
Yep.....the spacing is critical IMO....Rear-loaded guts like a 4004, p/up spacing like 4002. Exotic woods would be neat too.aceonbass wrote:You mean kinda like this?

Re: Official Prediction Thread- C series replacement
Whether or not the 4001 became the 4003, they are now two different models with different model numbers - but since they're so similar, why not offer them both? Especially since the 4001 is their most iconic bass model, even today, nearly 30 years after it was retired.
A 'modern' 4001 (toasters, horseshoe, 1/2" spacing) would cost more than a similar-looking 4003, and I can imagine it potentially confusing a Rickenbacker newbie, but it certainly wouldn't be any more confusing than all the different models that Fender puts out, and anyway, if you're shopping for a bass in the $1200-2200 range, I imagine you'd probably do some research. Even if a modern 4001 only sells as a special order to enthusiasts, it doesn't seem like it would make a lot of trouble for Rickenbacker on the production line. Since many of the 4004 basses have the neck pickup butted right up against the neck, I can't imagine that the 1/2" spacing would create any additional warranty troubles for RIC, either. Plus, since RIC already has all the parts, the new models could start shipping right away.
I would love to see a regular RM 1999 reissue too, or a V68, or a brand new model (short scale?), but I think that's unlikely, since the recent trend has been toward streamlining rather than introducing new models.

Ric's choice of maple and sometimes figured bubinga has always seemed exotic to me--exotic looking at least. I could go for some ebony every now and then, though.

I think that is exactly what Ben would do.aceonbass wrote:I have a feeling that whatever it is, RIC is building some already or very soon. I know JH hates to be held to time lines once he's announced a new feature or option, so I think this time they'll have some ready when the announcement comes. I don't think Ben would tease us and leave us on the hook for two years.
