AMEN to that! Rock on Jonathan. It's a f***ing material possession. You sure can't take it with you. I've said it here before, and I often have to remind even myself of it, but that Buddha cat said it best: attachments are the source of suffering.

Yup. Anything that doesn't breath can usually be replaced. I wouldn't even trade one of my dogs for a whole collection of guitars.

That really cracks me up!! Sorry, you can't have the Beagle. Actually, the serious attitude of mine comes from loosing everything in a fire years ago. I was thankful that every being that had life escaped. Now, I have a house full of "stuff" again. (along with the living creatures)

Man, that CS is haunting me. I had decided to take you up on the trade, but then just couldn't. It's something about the eyes.

it would take about 2 minutes extra production time to stamp a control number into a body cavity somewhere. Or even copy Fender ([perish the thought]) and put the damn number on the headstock as well.

I've seen instruments for sale without numbers on the jackplate and that's often a tattle-tale for other irregularities, though not necessarily so, but enough to scare me.

If I were not-so-honest, I could stockpile several "scrap" instruments, then create something "vintage" provided I can find some blank jackplates and a proper set of punch numbers.

I'm glad you protect your copyrights and patents. This simple step would just make things easier for you and protect the buying public as well.

The really serious aspect of this matter is that the higher the prices go for parts like the TRC and jack plates, the more incentive there will be for really good "copies". It's only a matter of time.
Like the US mint trying to keep ahead of counterfeiters.

well...nobody is worrying about that one. No way in hell he will ever sell that TRC at $475....

But as far as people making fakes? The market is pretty small on Rics in general....and like most things, I'd sure like to see ya make a counterfeit and try getting it past the RRF. The devil is always in the details...

This topic has been dealt with many times in the past. Jackplates are not exactly easy to manufacture, requiring expensive tooling and processes that are not exactly garage technology. TRCs are a bit easier, but nobody's made a foolproof fake yet. The cost of tooling is simply too high, and the demand too low.
