I like those basses. A friend of mine had a Fireglo one, and because of the plate it looks a bit like a mini-4005. It sounded awesome too!

This body shape is shared with the 3XXX series basses and the 430 and 230 guitars, as we all know. My question is, is this the last radically new body shape in Rick guitars and basses? I don't count the Cheyennes, Laredos, Dakotas, which are pretty faithful adaptations of older designs, in my assessment.

I believe 1989 was the switchover year so early woul dbe single coils and later would be humbuckers. I've got an '89 230 guitar and it has humbuckers.

Six years ago a 2030 came to me as a result of an eBay auction. It was in sad shape, missing electronics and one pickup, and with a bad split in the joint between the body halves. It turned out impossible to find the right parts to restore it to factory standard, so that idea was abandoned, and although the body joint was fixed, it wouldn't have been presentable with anything but a solid finish, which wasn't wanted. The end result was that I had some leftover scraps of nice curly koa that was cut into strips and inlaid in a route in the middle of the body, and was pressed into service for some custom pickup rings for the EMG pickups and the electronics cavity cover. The end result turned out quite nicely, played and sounded well, and the owner is happy as a clam.
